శ్రీ యాగంటి ఉమామహేశ్వర ఆలయం

ప్రతి సంవత్సరం పరిమాణంలో పెరిగే నంది విగ్రహం, నంది పరిమాణం పెరుగుతున్నందున ఆలయ సిబ్బంది ఇప్పటికే ఒక స్తంభాన్ని తొలగించారు. ప్రజలు గతంలో దాని చుట్టూ ప్రదక్షిణాలు చేసేవారు.

ఆలయం చరిత్ర:
ఈ ఆలయాన్ని 15 వ శతాబ్దంలో విజయనగర సామ్రాజ్యంలోని సంగమ రాజవంశం రాజు హరిహర బుక్కరాయ నిర్మించారు. ఇది వైష్ణవ సంప్రదాయాల ప్రకారం నిర్మించబడింది.
పెరుగుతున్న నంది ఆలయం ముందు ఉన్న నంది విగ్రహం నిరంతరం దాని పరిమాణాన్ని పెంచుతోందని భక్తులు నమ్ముతారు. విగ్రహం మొదట్లో దాని ప్రస్తుత పరిమాణం కంటే చాలా చిన్నదని స్థానికులు అంటున్నారు. ఈ విగ్రహంపై కొన్ని ప్రయోగాలు జరిగాయని, విగ్రహాన్ని చెక్కబడిన రాతి రకానికి దానితో సంబంధం ఉన్న పెరుగుతున్న లేదా విస్తరించే స్వభావం ఉందని వారు చెప్పారు.

20 ఏళ్లలో విగ్రహం ప్రతి సంవత్సరం 1 అంగుళం పెరుగుతుందని పురావస్తు సర్వే ఆఫ్ ఇండియా ధృవీకరించింది.

ఇక ఇక్కడి ముఖ మంటపంలో స్వయంభువుగా వెలసిన బసవన్న విగ్రహంలో జీవకళ ఉట్టిపడుతూ ఉంటుంది. దానిని చూడగానే లేచి రంకె వేయడానికి సిద్ధంగా ఉందేమోనని అనిపిస్తుంది. ఈ బసవన్న అంతకంతకు పెరిగిపోతూ ఉంటోందన్న మాటని పురావస్తు శాఖ కూడా నిర్ధారణ చేయడంతో మరింత మహిన్వితమైనదిగా వెలుగొందుతోంది. కలియుగాంతంలో యాగంటి బసవన్న లేచి రంకె వేస్తాడని బ్రహ్మంగారి కాలజ్ఞానం లో ప్రస్తావించబడి ఉంది. యుగాంతంతో ముడిపడి ఉన్న ప్రత్యేకత యాగంటి బసవన్నకు ఉంది.

కర్నూలు జిల్లాలో బ్రహ్మం గారు నివసించిన బనగానపల్లి గ్రామానికి సమీపంలో ఉన్న పుణ్యక్షేత్రమే యాగంటి. ఆహ్లాదకరమైన ప్రకృతి సౌందర్యంతో పరవశింపచేసే పుణ్యక్షేత్రాలలో యాగంటి ఒకటి. యాగంటి గ్రామంలో ఉమామహేశ్వర స్వామి ఆలయం నెలకొనివుంది. సమీపంలోని కొండ గుహ ఒకదానిలో వేంకటేశ్వరస్వామి విగ్రహం ఉంది. అగస్త్య మహర్షి, వీరబ్రహ్మేంద్రస్వామి వంటివారి పేర్లతో ఇక్కడి చారిత్రక, పౌరాణిక గాథలు ముడిపడివున్నాయి. యాగంటి ఆలయంలోని నంది విగ్రహానికి "యాగంటి బసవన్న" అని పేరు. ఈ విగ్రహం అంతకంతకూ పెరుగతూవుంటుందని, కలియుగం అంతమయ్యేనాటికి లేచి రంకె వేస్తుందని వీరబ్రహ్మేంద్రస్వామి కాలజ్ఞానంలో వర్ణించారు. అగస్త్యమహర్షి శాపం వల్ల ఈ గ్రామంలో కాకులు ఉండవని ప్రతీతి.

యాగంటి దేవాలయం కర్నూలు జిల్లాల్లో చాలా ప్రసిద్ధి చెందిన ఆలయం. ఇక్కడ వున్న నందీశ్వరునికి దేశవ్యాప్తంగా ప్రచారం ఉంది. యాగంటి క్షేత్రంలో ప్రధాన ఆలయంలో శ్రీ ఉమామహేశ్వరుని లింగం ఉంది. తొలుత ఈ ఆలయంలో శ్రీ వెంకటేశ్వర స్వామి విగ్రహాన్ని ప్రతిష్ఠించాలని కట్టారనీ కాని తయారయిన విగ్రహంలో చిన్న లోపం వున్నందున వెంకటేశ్వరుని విగ్రహాన్ని ప్రతిష్ఠించలేదనీ, స్వయంభువుగా ఆ చుట్టు పక్కల వెలసిన ఉమా మహేశ్వర స్వామి వారిని తీసుకుని వచ్చి ఆలయంలో ప్రతిష్ఠించారని ఒక కథ ప్రచారంలో ఉంది. లోప భూయిష్టమైన శ్రీ వెంకటేశ్వరస్వామి వారి విగ్రహాన్ని ప్రధాన ఆలయానికి ప్రక్కనే కొండపైన సహజ సిద్దంగా వున్న గుహలో ఇప్పటికీ దర్శించుకోవచ్చు. ఇక్కడున్న పుష్కరిణి లోనికి నీరు నంది నోటి నుండి వస్తూ వుంటుంది.

ప్రకృతి ఒడిలో పుట్టిన జలధార పర్వత సానువుల్లో ప్రవహించి ఆలయ ప్రాంగణంలోని కోనేరులో చేరుతుంది. ఈ కోనేరులో అగస్త్యుడు స్నానమాచరించిన కారణంగా దీనిని అగస్త్య పుష్కరిణి అని అంటారు. ఏ కాలంలో నైనా పుష్కరిణి లోని నీరు ఒకే మట్టంలో వుండడం విశేషం. ఇందులోని నీటికి ఔషధ గుణాలున్నాయని, ఇందులో స్నానమాచరిస్తే సర్వ రోగాలు నయమౌతాయని నమ్మకం. పుష్కరిణి నుండి ఆలయానికి వెళ్ళడానికి సోపాన మార్గం ఉంది. ప్రధాన గోపురం ఐదు అంతస్తులు కలిగి ఉంది. దీన్ని దాటగానే రంగ మంటపం, ముఖ మంటపం, అంతరాళం, ఉన్నాయి. గర్బాలయంలో లింగ రూపం పై ఉమా మహేశ్వరుల రూపాలు కూడా ఉన్నాయి. పోతులూరి వీరబ్రహ్మేంద్రస్వామి గారు రచించిన కాలజ్ఞానంలో యాగంటి బసవన్న రోజు రోజుకి పెరుగుతున్నాడని రాశారు.

యాగంటిలో సహజ సిద్ధంగా ఏర్పడిన కొండగుహలు మనని ఆశ్చర్య చకితులను చేస్తాయి. వెంకటేశ్వరస్వామి గుహలో అగస్త్య మహర్షి శ్రీ వేంకటేశ్వరుని విగ్రహం ప్రతిష్ఠించాడు. ఇక్కడున్న వేంకటేశ్వరుడు భక్తుల పూజలనందు కొంటున్నాడు. ఆ ప్రక్కనే ఇంకో గుహలో బ్రహ్మం గారు కొంత కాలం నివసించారని, శిష్యులకు ఙ్ఞానోపదేశం చేసారని భక్తులు నమ్ముతారు. దీనిని శంకరగుహ, రోకళ్ళగుహ అనికూడా అంటారు. యాగంటిలో వసతి సౌకర్యాలు లేవు. దగ్గర వున్న బనగానపల్లిలో వసతులున్నాయి. ఈ క్షేత్రం కర్నూలు నుండి సుమారు వంద కిలో మీటర్ల దూరంలో ఉంది. కర్నూలు, బనగానపల్లి, నంద్యాల నుండి యాగంటి క్షేత్రానికి బస్సు సౌకర్యం ఉంది.


The devotees believe that the Nandi idol in front of the temple is continuously increasing its size. The locals say that the idol was initially much smaller than its present size. They say that certain experimentation was carried out on this idol and it was said that the type of rock out of which the idol is carved has a growing or enlarging nature associated with it.

It is said that people used to do Pradakshinas (rounds) around it in the past. The temple staff has already removed one pillar as the size of the Nandi has increased. According to Potuluri Veera Brahmendra swamy, the Basavanna (stone nandi) of Yaganti will come alive and shout when Kali Yuga ends.

This temple was constructed by King Harihara Bukka Raya of the Sangama Dynasty of the Vijayanagara Empire in the 15th century. It was built according to Vaishnavaite traditions.

One story of the site's origin is as follows: The sage Agastya wanted to build a temple for Lord Venkateswara on this site. However, the statue that was made could not be installed as the toe nail of the idol got broken. The sage was upset over this and performed a penance for Shiva. When Shiva appeared, he said the place suits Shiva better as it resembles Kailash. Agastya then requested Shiva to give the devotees a Parvathi Goddess as Lord Uma Maheswara in a single stone, which Shiva obliged.

A second story is as follows: Chitteppa, a devotee of Shiva, was worshiping Shiva and Shiva appeared to him as a tiger. Chitteppa understood that it was Lord Shiva in tiger form, and shouted Neganti Shivanu ne kanti (meaning: I saw Shiva I saw), and danced with joy. There is a cave called Chitteppa nearby. Sri Yaganti Uma Maheswara Temple is one of the few temples patronized by one of the great dynasties of India. Every year Maha Shivaratri is celebrated and a large number of devotees from all over Andhra Pradesh visit. Shiva, Parvati and Nandi are the main deities in this temple. This temple is 14 km away from Banaganipalli in kurnool dt. The saint lord Veerabrahmendra swami stayed here for some time and wrote Kalagnanam.

A feature of this temple is its Pushkarini, a small pond of water on the temple premises. Water flows into this Pushkarini from the bottom of hill through the mouth of a Nandi (bull). The water is fresh and sweet, as it comes from the hills. No one knows how the water reaches the pond all year round and this temple architecture in terms of its sculpture shows the skills of ancient Vishwakarma Sthapathis. Devotees find that a holy bath in Pushkarini is highly beneficial. After taking a bath in Pushkarini, they pay tributes to Lord Shiva.
